1. Why Choose VinaTap Coco Bricks?

VinaTap coco bricks are engineered as a clean, consistent and high-performance substrate for modern agriculture. Compared with many generic coco products, VinaTap bricks are produced from carefully selected coco peat and undergo multiple treatment steps to guarantee safety and stability.

  • Washed & Buffered: Excess salts, dust and tannins are removed through repeated washing, followed by Calcium Nitrate buffering for balanced cation exchange capacity (CEC).
  • Heat-Sterilized: Coco peat is heat-treated at high temperature to eliminate harmful microorganisms, insect eggs and weed seeds.
  • Low EC & Stable pH: EC is controlled at < 0.8 mS/cm (Low-EC option available), with a pH range of 5.5–6.5 – ideal for most horticultural crops.
  • Heavy-Metal Safe: Free from Hg, Pb, As, Cadmium and other toxic contaminants.
  • 100% Natural & Biodegradable: Produced from renewable coconut husks – an eco-friendly alternative to peat moss and mineral wool.

2. Sizes & Technical Specifications

VinaTap supplies coco bricks in several popular formats for retail and professional use:

  • Outstanding water retention: Coco bricks hold up to 8–10× their weight in water, keeping the root zone evenly moist.
  • Excellent aeration: The porous structure prevents compaction and provides continuous oxygen to roots.
  • Root-friendly structure: Fine yet stable texture promotes dense, fibrous root systems.
  • No odor, no pests, no weeds: Clean processing ensures a pleasant and hygienic substrate.
  • Reusable: With proper cleaning and reconditioning, expanded coir can be reused for multiple crop cycles.
  • Eco-friendly choice: Produced from coconut processing by-products instead of mined peat.

4. How to Use VinaTap Coco Bricks

Step-by-step hydration guide:

  1. Place one coco brick in a clean bucket, tray or mixing container.
  2. Add 3–5 L of clean water for a 600–650 g brick, or 8–10 L for a 1 kg brick.
  3. Allow 15–30 minutes for the brick to fully expand.
  4. Break up and fluff the coir by hand until it becomes loose and uniform.
  5. Use immediately as a stand-alone substrate or blend with soil, compost, perlite, husk chips, biochar, etc.

Adjust the amount of water depending on your desired moisture level. The substrate should feel moist but not soggy.

5. Main Applications

  • Seed starting & propagation trays for vegetables, flowers and seedlings.
  • Potting soil for indoor plants, balcony gardens, hanging baskets and containers.
  • Greenhouse & hydroponics – ideal as a base medium in slabs, pots, grow bags and Dutch buckets.
  • Soil amendment in heavy clay or sandy soils to improve structure, aeration and water-holding.
  • Mulching & landscaping – reduces surface evaporation and helps control weeds.

7. FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Why is washing and sterilization important?

Raw coco peat may contain excess salts, dust and microorganisms. Washing, buffering and heat treatment ensure low EC, stable pH and hygienic conditions, preventing root burn and disease.

Q2. How much water does a 1 kg brick need?

Typically 8–10 liters of clean water – expanding to around 14–15 liters of loose coir. Adjust water slightly depending on desired moisture.

Q3. Can coco bricks be mixed with other media?

Yes. Expanded coir mixes very well with perlite, husk chips, compost, biochar, peat-free soil and other substrates to fine-tune drainage and aeration.

Q4. Can expanded coir be stored or reused?

Yes. After use, remove old roots, allow the coir to dry in the shade, then store in a dry, ventilated place. It can be reconditioned and reused with fresh nutrients.

Q5. What is the main difference between 600 g and 650 g bricks?

Primarily expansion volume. A 650 g brick produces slightly more substrate, making it better suited for larger pots or containers.
